Boar Hair Shaving Brush - great option

I've ordered several boar hair brushes from Shave Forge and have never been disappointed. Great stiffness with superior water retention.

    Preferred boar

Posted by John on Nov 10th 2021

Shave Forge is my preferred USA based supplier of boar knots. They hold their shape and scrub better than other knots I've sourced in the US. The glue bump will up the hole diameter needed to set the knot deep. Not a problem for me as I drill my own wooden handles. I would appreciate it if knots of similar quality in smaller diameters were available, for re-knotting vintage boar brushes.

Shed more than 30 hairs 1st use. Worst boar I've EVER used !!

BOAR HAIR SHAVING BRUSH KNOT (20MM X 63MM)

Fantastic scritch and scrub with just the right amount of backbone, not the first time buying these.

    Be careful of glue bump

Posted by Andrew on Mar 26th 2021

Ordered this 20mm knot to fit a 20mm handle. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the handle due to the glue bump in the knot. It's also too small to fit any of the 24mm handles I also ordered. It appears to be well-made, it just doesn't fit. Just plan on sizing up to 21 or 22mm if you buy this knot.

Boar Hair Shaving Brush Knot (20mm x 63mm)

Posted by John C on Jun 24th 2019

Looked like good quality when I inspected it on arrival. I set it at 47mm loft to maximize 'scrubby'. It is breaking in nicely. (I don't follow any special break-in protocol.) No shedding at all once a couple loose bristles brushed out during the initial inspection and first use. I think this knot is quite comparable to my mid- and low-priced Semogue and Omega boars, which I like better than my Zeniths. I have never used an expensive boar, but I don't want a boar to act like a badger. Closest comparison is to my Semogue 1250.
